First Birthday Cake Smash Photography
I just love, love, love photographing first birthday cake smash photography in my warm and cosy Staffordshire studio. Most of us get to enjoy countless birthdays but none are as special or significant as your first. And since we can’t remember them, isn’t it wonderful that they can now be captured by parents and then treasured as keepsakes.

I have photographed countless cake smashes for families in Newcastle Under Lyme, Stoke on Trent and across Staffordshire. I have all the props, banners, costumes, signs and balloons in every colour scheme and style you can think of. You just need to bring your baby.

In fact, coming up with new and inventive ways to photography families and children is one of the most fun parts of my job as a Staffordshire family photographer. Fun First Birthday Staffordshire Cake Smash Photography
In case you’re unfamiliar with what it is, (Where have you been?) A first birthday cake smash is when a tiny cake given to a baby on their first birthday. The baby is then left unsupervised to tuck into the cake in the way that only babies can get away with. The result is some fun, some mess and some amazingly unique and creative images of your baby for you to treasure.
The only thing you need to bring is your bubble bath & fluffy towel!
I always book out 1 and a half hours for a cake smash session, it often takes less time but it’s important that we go at baby’s pace allowing time for cuddles, naps and play. I always wait for babies to settle down and feel comfortable in the studio before the photo-session starts. Once baby’s happy I will take a few images before the cake is brought out. Then the cake is brought out and the fun really begins!
By the way, don’t worry that your baby will eat too much cake! In these photo-sessions I’m always amazed at how little cake is actually eaten. Think of it more as a messy play activity that happens to be edible!
One of the many things I love about being a Staffordshire cake smash photographer is that the sessions reveal my client’s babies’ personalities and sense of curiosity at this very young age. All of the giggles, smiles, and sticky faces and fingers all captured in this fun and unique way.
Creative First Birthday Cake Smash Photography in Staffordshire
At the end of the photo session, we can do an optional splash time in my roll top baby bath with rubber ducks. I only ask that you bring your babies usual bubble bath so that there are no allergy risks. A quick wipe down isn’t always enough for our most enthusiastic cake smashers!
The images the photo sessions produce make fantastically unique keepsakes and fun gifts for loved ones.
