Children photography in Stoke on Trent captured by Charlene Davies Photography

As a busy Staffordshire child photographer people often ask me when the perfect time is to have portrait images of their babies taken.  All stages of your baby’s development are fascinating to photograph though I have to say that the 6–10-month age producing some of the best images.

This type of baby photography is known as ‘sitter photography’ as it is the stage when babies first sit up.

Sitter sessions take place in my lovely warm studio or at a location of your choice.  I have lots of props etc. to keep your baby entertained throughout the sitter session.

There are countless reasons why booking a sitter session with a professional child photographer is a good idea. But here are my top 5

You should have a sitter session because…

1.     This is the first opportunity you have to take an image of your baby sitting unaided on their own.  It’s a milestone in your baby’s life so deserves to be recognised by investing in it being documented with beautiful timeless images.

2.     This stage in your baby’s development is the stage with all the smiles.  Baby’s aged 6-10 months generally smile every time someone looks at them or speaks to them.  This makes capturing portraits of your baby smiling pretty easy.

3.     Your baby isn’t old enough to be wary of new people yet.  Baby’s at 6-10 months are open and curious about the world around them.  They will happily sit, smile and gurgle for anyone who shows them attention.

4.     Your baby isn’t quite on the move yet.  Good luck getting a good portrait of your baby once they start crawling, cruising around furniture and walking.  Successfully changing a nappy at that stage feels like an achievement!

5.     The sessions are done much quicker than other types of child photography.  Because your baby is usually happy to sit, smile and maintain eye contact, the sessions are usually done in 30 – 35 minutes.
